Some of our Child Sponsors ask if they can send a special gift to the children they are co-sponsoring for holidays such as Christmas or birthdays. We are so excited when sponsors and donors want to send a gift to the children we serve in Cameroon!
Typically the only gifts we allow are things such as:
- Letters
- Photos
- Blind Gifts ($25+)
What is a Blind Gift?
The best gift to give a child is one they really need. As sentimental as necklaces, coloring books, or toys are, they may not be as valuable to the child as something they really need. The best Santa is one who grants their wishes. Many of the children in our program have more specific needs that will be of greater benefit to them. This could be new shoes for school, a new backpack, feed for the chickens they’re raising, etc. Blind Gifts are more personal and avoid unnecessary items that are not of much value to a child in Cameroon.
How It Works:
Our KAF Team in Cameroon knows our children well and visits those living with adoptive & foster families regularly. If a donor or sponsor indicates an interest in giving a Blind Gift, our team will assess the child’s situation and determine a good gift for them, of $25 or more, depending on the donation amount sent. Then they will notify us what specific gift was given, present the gift to the child and inform them it’s from their awesome sponsor!
We limit our gift-giving options to the above three in an effort to be the best stewards we can, cut down on any unnecessary expenses, and also help support the economy in Cameroon. There are many reasons why we believe this is the best method for gift-giving:
- You don’t have to worry about shipping and transportation to Cameroon
- You don’t have the risk of your gift being held by customs
- You don’t have to pay expensive shipping and handling to mail packages overseas
- By purchasing in Cameroon, we are helping support the local economy
- By giving a Blind Gift, you are catering specifically to the needs of a child
If you want to send a Blind Gift to a co-sponsored child, simply make a special one-time gift whether online or via check in the mail, and indicate it’s a Blind Gift to a co-sponsored child who most needs it. We will deliver the gift and send you a report indicating who was your beneficiary and what you provided for them.
