Frisbee for the Fatherless Tournament Specific Rules

Spirit of the Game

    1. Spirit of the Game is an important part of this tournament. Teams are expected to hold good sportsmanship during the tournament.
    2. Any player who repeatedly uses foul language violently protests a call or curses an official or supervisor, will be removed from the game and will automatically be suspended from his/her team’s next game at a tournament official’s or supervisor’s discretion.

Tournament Composition

    1. The tournament will consist of two divisions: competitive and non-competitive.
    2. Shaping Destiny reserves the right to move teams between divisions as it deems necessary. Reasons include but are not limited to:
      • Teams of seasoned, veteran players who join the non-competitive division without a valid reason to do so and would otherwise be a competitive team within the competitive division.
      • Needing teams to move divisions in order to make fairer, more balanced tournament pools/brackets.
    3. The tournament pools/brackets will be devised when registration closes. Team captains (or the person registering the team) will be notified when this is completed.

Team Composition

    1. A team’s roster must include a maximum of 12 players and a minimum of 7.
    2. Each team may have a maximum of 7 players on the field at a time.
    3. Teams may be comprised of any number of men or women. No men-to-women ratios will be enforced in this tournament.

Equipment & Field Size

  1. All players must wear closed-toe shoes.
  2. Discs will be provided by Shaping Destiny, but another disc may be used provided it is agreed upon by both teams.
  3. Space permitting, the field size will be regulation 70 yards long by 40 yards wide. The field of play will also consist of two 25-yard end zones. Shaping Destiny reserves the right to make adjustments to field sizes if deemed necessary.

Game Length

  1. Games are first to 11 points. A five-minute halftime is at 6 points, though this halftime may be played through or shortened if both team captains agree.
  2. Hard cap horn will go off at 45 minutes.
  • Hard cap is the ending of the game, once the horn has sounded and after the current scoring attempt is completed.
  • If the score is tied, play continues until one additional goal is scored. The team that scores, wins (universe point).
  1. There is no hard cap for Championship games (Finals).

Time-Outs & Substitutions

  1. Each team has one 70-second time-out per half. Unused time-outs do NOT carry over to the next period. There are NO time-outs after hard cap.
  2. While the disc is in play, only the player in possession of the disc may call a time-out.
  3. In the event of an injury, an injury time-out will be called. The injury time-out is not charged to either team.
  4. When play resumes after a time-out has been taken, the player who had possession puts the disc into play. If the player calling the time-out leaves the field due to substitution, the player replacing him/her puts the disc into play. The disc is put into play at the location where the disc was when the time-out was called. Play is resumed.
  5. Substitutions may only be made between scores (following a goal and before the pull) or during a time-out. There are no substitutions while the disc is in play.
  • During an injury time-out, only the player calling injury may be substituted for that team. The opposing team may substitute a like number of players.
  • During a non-injury time-out, there is no limit to the number of substitutions that may be made by either team. The reason for this rule is that the weather will be hot and our goal is to be safe as well as have fun. If a point is going too long, we would rather have players rest than succumb to heat exhaustion or worse.

Inclement Weather

  1. Shaping Destiny reserves the right to postpone or reschedule a tournament if circumstances warrant such action. In the event of inclement weather, the Shaping Destiny staff will make a decision regarding the continuation of the tournament. For information on cancellations, email Shaping Destiny at info@kennethacha.org.
  2. If the tournament is canceled due to the weather, the tournament will be rescheduled and all participants will be informed on new tournament date.

Gameplay Rules

    1. Unless specifically noted above, all rules will be in accordance with the 11th edition USAU rulebook, which may be found here.

Ultimate in 10 Simple Rules

Ultimate in 10 Simple Rules

  1. The Field: A rectangular shape with end zones at each end. A regulation field is 70 yards by 40 yards, with end zones 25 yards deep.
  2. Initiating Play: Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective end zone line. The defense throws (“pulls”) the disc to the offense. A regulation game has seven players per team.
  3. Scoring: Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense’s end zone, the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.
  4. Movement of the Disc: The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc (“thrower”) has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower (“marker”) counts out the stall count.
  5. Change of Possession: When a pass in not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense.
  6. Substitutions: Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury time-out.
  7. Non-contact: No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made.
  8. Fouls: When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.
  9. Self-Officiating: Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.
  10. Spirit of the Game: Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.
